As I continue to work on my own comeback to peak wealth from the financial crisis of 2008 and other subsequent personal setbacks, I find myself motivated by the comeback stories of others.
Here is one such story!
Six years ago Jillian Halligan was the number one ranked Olympic lifter in her weight class in Canada. She took some time off to have a child and today she is the mother of a four year old named Jack. On Saturday night, at 43 years of age, and after a few months of focused training she returned to the “platform” in St. Thomas, Ontario in the Master’s category, won her weight class with lifts like this and qualified for the World Master’s Championships in August.
What’s more, if not for a slightly bent elbow as seen here she would have qualified for the Provincial championships in the open category (i.e. all ages) in March. Not bad for a 43 year old mom.
No – not a bad outcome at all. With 4 year old Jack hooting and cheering her every lift, Jill has come full circle and now as both a Mom, and once again, a successful athlete, knows a level of personal satisfaction greater than anything she had experienced before.
We are proud of her and inspired by her success.
